Our faith traditions may use different words, but the message is clear – people of faith will care for children who are in need of a home. Not everyone is meant to bring a child they did not birth into their home … but everyone can do something. Which is good news!
We believe when congregations are inspired and equipped to be with foster and adoptive families every child is cared for, every family has hope, congregations are strengthened, and communities are healthier and safer.
Ways Congregations Can Get Involved
It’s not all or nothing.
We don’t need all congregations to offer all possible Adoption and Foster Care classes or activities. However, we can all do something, be it small or large, and we are all needed.
- Prayer Initiative
- Supportive Care Groups
- Adoption/Foster Care Awareness Event
- Adoption/Foster Care Decisions Class
- Empowered to Connect Parenting Class
- Host Local Child Placing Agency Trainings or Special Events
- Prayer Shawl or Weighted Blanket program
How will this benefit my congregation?
Becoming a Cultivating Families Partner Congregation will benefit your congregation in many ways. Adoption and foster care activities provide faith-based congregations with incredible opportunities to offer real-life bridges to their communities. In turn, these bridges expose more families to your congregation. We will help you plan, launch, and sustain an adoption and foster care activity that best fits your local community. When you open your doors for activities such as Support Groups and Agency Trainings, you are opening your doors to people that may not currently attend faith-based activities, and these are likely to be young professional families in their 30’s and 40’s. Keep in mind that just as the children seek forever families, these families seek forever faith families.
In addition, your current members may find a new purpose and a reason to stay actively involved. One of our greatest needs as humans is to have a purpose.
